Responses: 3

Share which artists, famous or not, have been the most influential in your own artistic development. Whose work and/or personalities have been the most important in helping you to reach your own artistic goals. What specific paintings, what part of their style... share whatever it was so others can enjoy and learn from it too.

Artist Who Have Influenced ME

I am a woman artist and other women artist are huge influences for me. Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'keefe, Lee Krasner, Louise Nevelson and others have all played some kind of role in my development as an artist. I am coming into my art later in life although I have been working on my art since I was a teenager. Like so many women I have had to divide my time between sick parents, a child and a husband plus working full time or more to support my family over the years. It is inspiring to me to read about women artist who have had to make sacrifices for husbands, family, children, themselves and others but still worked and lived as artist. It is a huge struggle for me and they have given me support even though they are only physically here through their art.

Peter Howson

I consider the figures and portraits of the Scottish artist Peter Howson inspirational, powerful, gritty, grounded in anatomy yet melded with imagination, exaggeration,
