Tin Foil with Caps
- I have so many tube caps that had been broken, misplaced, too mucked up to fit on the tube that now I take a piece of tin foil, wrap it around the tube opening very snugly and put one of my toothpaste caps that I always save, over the the tin foil enclosure. It works fine for me and love that I've found a solution to my problem.

Plastic Wrap Temporary Measure
- Until you can find a suitable replacement use a piece of plastic wrap and a rubber band. You just need to keep the air out.

Broken or Lost Tube Caps
- Buy some wiring nuts at your local hardware store. They fit oil paint tubes fine and come in all sizes.

Throw Out Broken Caps
- Toss 'em. We use many products that come in tubes such as toothpaste, medications, ointments, wasabi, and even some small bottles. Save them. They might fit a paint tube. And, by all means, save the caps from empty paint tubes. A little blob of plasticine will make a good closure as well.

Prevent Cracking
- Tops won't crack if you put a bit of Vaseline on the tube's thread.

Put it in a Jar
- I've not had it happen very often but when it has I've squeezed the paint out into a small airtight jar with a screw lid. Or a 35mm film canister if you can still get hold of one. Must be airtight though or the paint will dry too fast.
