I Just Like to Paint

I call myself neither an artist nor a painter. It's a verb for me, I like painting. The first time someone called me an artist I was caught in a crossfire of emotion. I never identified myself by what I was doing, it wasn't a my position it was an activity to enrich my life. I still haven't quite come to terms with the simple statement, "Oh, you're an artist." It rings in my ears, throws me off balance and tightens the breaths in my chest. It's as if being labeled an "artist" means I must produce great works, make big money and be well known. So for me, let's stick to, I just like to paint.

Artist

I'm not just a painter as a matter of fact my prefererence is drawing and I also sculpt and am a printmaker. Painter could be a house painter, which I also do. Most artists I know usually practice more than one discipline and so I think Artist is the right term.

Artist

You can not call yourself an Artist, unless someone called you an Artist.

Painter? What Does It Matter...?

I tend to call myself a painter, because I often feel that the term "artist" can sound pretentious. If I'm with other artists, the term "painter" identifies how I create my art. If I'm with non-artists, their reaction is amusing and varied.

Artist

I consider myself an artist, as I can paint, draw and create works of art. I think of a painter as someone that can paint a house or barn.

Is It Fair to Say?

Would it be fair to say that I am an artist even though I tend to gather my creative thoughts from other art?

Artist in Training

I consider myself an artist, but still one in training. I do a lot of experimenting, and although I have a specific style and one or two mediums I specialise in, I'm always seeing what else I can learn. Some people call me an artist, but as far as I'm concerned, I still have a lot of learning to do, and may in fact (or even hopefully) never stop learning.

I am an Artist...

I was born as an artist. From the earliest memory. I have always created... draw, paint, sculpt, dig, scratch, move, manipulate anything to create something... anything. To express myself and show others what i see and what I believe...I was born an artist.

Artist v "Creative"

What does it really matter what and who we all are? I like to think I am who I am doing what comes natural to my present condition and that given time. The word "art" is cheap today , it's loosely used in everything and everywhere. I prefer to be called he paints pictures you know! You know a bit of a so-called creative type. A bit way out there. You know the type.

Art Comes Naturally

Anyone who paints is an artist, I believe. I do not believe it is taught but comes naturally. Beauty is created from what you perceive as good. Each person is different. You don't have to be a Monet or Van Gogh to create a truly great piece of art. 99.9 percent of people may not like it, or they may love it. You can call it rubbish if you like, or you can like it or hate it, but you need to remember 'it is still art'.

Artist

I am an artist because I spend about eight hours every weekday in my studio doing things that can't be called anything besides art. I love to paint, I also draw and work with other media.

Be It That Which We See

Living to express, using the balance of perspective, having the depth of interpretation. Is this all so much as just situational or could it be that in our own rights we are all artists? One doesn't need a brush and colour to create nor define what is before us. We do those and at most more before we even know it ourselves consciously, nevermind being told or finding it out. Established or not, our ideas are our blood and we make our history.

Creativity

A Painter is a person or group who paints houses...etc. An Artist Painter is a person who use colours to create something different all the time...

The Natural Language of Art

For years I taught art. Never once was called an artist. Talented, skilled, but not "artist'. Now I paint full time and those who view, sell, and comment on my art call me "the artist". I smile! What they see... they name.

Artist, Painter or What?

When I tell people I have been painting, they go "which room in the house", so I classify their question with "canvases". I don't know if the paintings I create are Art, which is why my blog is called Jackie Berg Painter or Artist, you decide!!! If you want to check out the blog here is the address www.jackiebergpainter.blogspot.com and decide for yourself. All I know is I have a love and sometime hate relationship with the paint and canvas and argue with them constantly when I try to paint the beauty I see in the world around me and in my imagination.
