Title and Medium
Still Life with Grapes, 3 x 5", acrylic on canvas
Artist's Statement
I've been out of town and therefore waited until the last moment to do this challenge. I was ready to start... and alas, no wine in the house. I substituted another glass bottle - one with a squarish base. I understand if this painting does not meet the criteria of the challenge!
I decided to try working with acrylic glazing medium for the first time. I tried to build up the objects using thin layers of color. I enjoyed working this way and think I will have to try more of it in the future!
What I'd Do Differently
- I think I may try this again with a squarer canvas and include more of the bottle and the background.
- I also need more practice painting glass!

Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
A squarish bottle could be some sort of wine decanter, so counts in my book. I like the composition, a slice of a scene that feels like it's got a story to tell if only I could see more. Instead I'm tantalized with just this bit, and keep looking to see if I can see more, to see what might be reflected, what's behind...
