Title and Medium
Apple and Cider. 10x8", watercolor on paper
Artist's Statement
This was fun, I have been painting for a few months and enjoyed this very much. I wasn't sure if I should write out the words on the label, but finally decided to just add some light color.
The highlight is the white of the paper, but I wonder if I should have washed the whole thing and used gouache.
What I'd Do Differently
- The label looks crooked to me, and maybe do a brown pear instead of the apple.
Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
I think not having details on the label means the viewer's eye isn't pulled in to the specifics of that bottle, but rather is presented by an overall scene with a sense of timelessness, anywhere and everywhere. The curve on the label, if it's been stuck on the bottle straight, will follow the ellipses of the bottle. Judge it as you would the top and bottom edges of the bottle, and compare it to these too. A brown pear... sounds like the beginning of a series!
