Artist's Statement
This project came at an appropriate time. I had bought a pad of watercolour sheets which absorbed water and hence could not be used for water colour painting. Since childhood I had been using thick gouache paint to make paintings till few years ago I learnt the beauty of watercolours. I have several ideas for this project which I will submit one by one.
After making the initial sketch I used wax crayon as I wanted to see if wax resist would work for gouache paints. After applying first wash, I dry brushed black / Prussian blue paint. After that I applied brush loaded with clean water.
What I'd Do Differently
- It was tempting to take shortcuts like liberal use of water or water colour pencils to complete the project
- The painting is far from perfect
- I did not use white colour as it did not appear to be opaque
