Title and Medium
Foggy Morning. 11 x 14 inches. Oil on canvas.
Artist's Statement
I decided that pussywillow branches against a blue sky using pthalo blue, cadmium red deep, burnt sienna and titanium white would work for this project. I didn't like the first attempt so I blended everything out, but you could still see the faint branches, so I began adding layers and blending, ending with a few clear branches in front.
What I'd Do Differently
- I'm not sure since this whole process was a happy mistake and I just went with it to see where it took me. A little more blue for the sky maybe.

Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
Lovely sense of a foggy day. The faint branches in the background may not have been intentional, but it's effective! I would knock back the smudge of brown/red on the left more. It doesn't have to disappear completely, but right now I find it distracting. The composition works well with the pair of branches on the right that both go off the top of the canvas contrasting against the single one on the left which doesn't. Great use of the Rule of Odds to keep the eye moving around the composition.
