Artist's Statement

Although most adults think of Valentine's Day as romantic, kids still give fun cards (at least in most elementary schools) to their favorite teacher, BFF's (Best Friends Forever), and other people they love or care deeply about. This painting is of two little sisters, my granddaughters, who love each other unconditionally. I never had a sister, so I envy their deep love and commitment to each other. When one is hurt, the other one cries, too. Although their personalities are far from being alike, they adore one another. Sadly, their mother died of cancer when they were small, which is probably why you rarely see them apart. This is the truest form of being valentines in my eyes. Sweethearts may come and go, but sisters are for keeps.

I painted this from a photo I took a few years ago at our local beach. It was such fun to paint.

What I'd Do Differently

  • I can always find little things I'd like to change or improve on, but I don't think I will do a thing to change it. Sometimes you just have to let things be as they are.
  • I love the peace that I feel when I look at this painting, the peace I felt while painting it,too.
