Artist's Statement
The best part of Valentine's Day! I was at a discount store in early January and could not believe the vast amount of Valentine's candy already on the shelves while after-Xmas sales were still going on. Since I have a strange sense of humor, and a low tolerance for things "too cute", I decided to get right down to the real reason we all love Valentine's Day so much.
I had to do quite a bit of work trying to get the paper cups to look right. It was difficult painting them so that the paper didn't look too thick. Overall, the painting was enjoyable. These painting projects encourage me to paint subjects that I'm not usually drawn to, so this was a good experience.
What I'd Do Differently
- I like the way the chocolates turned out, but not the paper cups. I would like to have been able to make the papers look more "paper" like, and I think it would have been more aesthetically pleasing if I had set the chocolates more randomly. Maybe I'll go back and work on that at another time.
