Artist's Statement
This was inspired by a painting class I took where we used purples and pinks (inspiration painting is the one shown in the lower photo). I have always been hesitant to try a painting using only two colors as I have a tendency to slide toward vibrant colors. I decided to take a chance and try this project. I used the same painting with a couple minor changes and added wildlife.
What I'd Do Differently
- At this point the only change I would make, is to try another using browns. I think I will make them a series. I do like the accident of the moon reflecting on the ice.
Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
The vast array of paint colors available to us is very tempting, but as you've discovered with this painting sometimes less is indeed more. The result is moody, intriguing, albeit not a monochrome painting as the project calls for. A series in different colors will be a great project, both for the results and for getting to know individual colors better.
