Title and Medium
I've named this painting "Leena" which is an African name that means softness. This painting is on stretched canvas size 16" x 20 ". I've used Winsor and Newton Galeria Acrylic: Vandyke Brown and Titanium White.
Artist's Statement
This Galeria is nice paint, it has more body than regular acrylics and keeps the brush strokes you make which I like. I saw a painting once of an African woman with a beautiful blue scarf around her head and face. It was in a gallery so I couldn't take a photo of it but when I got outside I sketched it in my cheque book register with my eye liner pencil and some blue eye shadow. I've never tried to do that painting but I thought this was a good time to try something similar. I don't usually do sketches first but with this I blocked out the area for her and then painted in the background and then painted her directly on the canvas.
What I'd Do Differently
- I think I might try it again sometime but have her looking up.
- and the next time I will give her a blue scarf.
- I like how this one turned out though

Your saying that "Galeria has more body than regular acrylics" makes me wonder what you've been using, because while Galeria does retain brushmarks it's quite a bit softer than, say, Winsor & Newton's artist's acrylics. I find I don't use much or any water or medium to spread it out with a brush, unlike some other brands.I'm a great believer in trying different brands because while they're all "acrylic paint", they aren't all identical.
