Title and Medium
The title of this painting is "Coming Home by Sail". I used acrylic paint and a canvas sheet 16 x 20 inches. I painted the entire ground with pthylo green prior to starting after checking the rules and seeing that wasn't mentioned as not allowed. The two colors I chose to use were pthylo blue and titanium white.
Artist's Statement
I decided that this would be a good chance to check the tonal qualities of this painting as I might do something similar in the future using a larger pallet and canvas. It also gave me a chance to work very quickly and looser than I normally do. I was able to check out the composition using this project which I enjoyed doing.
What I'd Do Differently
- I wouldn't do anything different as I'm happy with the results. It's surprising how many different shades you can get with one color. I like the way the waves are showing movement

Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
I wouldn't want to be sailing in that rough sea! Using a ground that's a color other than white is definitely allowed for this project, though few people think of doing so! Your choice a green under the blue is apt for the subject.
