Artist's Statement
The composition of this painting is the layout of our bathroom. I am always complaining about how "tight of a fit" it is in there so I thought it was humorous to use my bathroom for the miniature portrait project. I used a black back ground because I found it a "little more interesting" having the black and white contrast rather than the boring light color of wall and tile that are presently in the bathroom.
What I'd Do Differently
- I still do not care to do "miniatures" but this one was fun to do... Of course it could use a lot of improvement because I am just not skilled painting that small.
Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
I think this would count more as an "interior" rather than a "still life" for the latter I'd expect the items to be things you could move. But it's a quirky choice of subject, so I'm including it. And, given the rate at which home-renovation TV shows would have us think some people redo their bathrooms, maybe a bath is a movable item...
