Artist's Statement
Being a glutton for punishment thought I'd try another Lowry matchstick painting thinking it would be easier second time around - no way! (See my first painting here.)
I think Lowry had a wonderful way with his paintings and the figures seemed so natural a part of his compositions and to me, were they more realistic figures, somehow or other they might not have fitted into his paintings as well.
Lessons Learned
- I learned stick to what you know best.
- If you copy another painter from the distant past it should be one you can relate to or you might be disappointed in the outcome.
- What I like most about the painting is the impression of the museum above the queue of people.
Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
I think the big pillars not only give a sense of location, but enhance the feeling of thin and tall in the figures.
