What I Used

I used acrylics on 5 x 6 7/8 inch Strathmore Watercolor cards. I do not send many cards so I was able to paint them rather than make prints.

My Inspiration

Some years ago I painted a "Chapel in the Moonlight" that my wife really liked. I ended up selling it and she was very mad at me. So I decided to do one for the Christmas card this year. This card is not the same as that one but only the same theme. It is kind of a composite of a number of similar scenes. I like painting scenes of places in the moonlight. I have an Adobe in the moonlight that is a real favorite of mine.

Advice

  • The first thing is start early. Otherwise you place too much pressure on yourself. I am not sure it is the best idea to paint all cards the same. After a couple it loses the freshness, becomes too stale, not the picture but the doing of it. Making your own is lots of fun though.
