What I Used
A dried piece of bracken (fern), stuck onto a piece of thin cardboard, sealed with gloss acrylic varnish. I printed it on sketchbook paper with water-based lino ink, and with fabric paint on calico.
What I Did
I did a few prints on paper and liked the result, so moved onto doing it with fabric paint on bits of calico with the thought that they could be sewn together to make an interesting quilt. I used a small foam roller to apply the paint, not cleaning the colors each time but allowing them to mix.
I had orange, yellow, red, and green fabric paint, which eventually gave me all sorts of interesting browns as they became very mixed. In all I printed about 20.
Advice
- Just go for it, if you think it might produce something interesting, stick it down and give it a try. If it does, you can then refine it if you wish.
