Artist's Statement
With this challenge I finally realized that there are some things that are best expressed in an abstracted style at least I’m hoping this will be considered abstracted. I used dark and light pinks in an attempt to make it glow with some of the beauty that draws me to peonies. I love peonies they are the most luscious, decadent flower and when you paint one you feel obligated to give it your best shot. I feel I came up short but it was wonderful to paint it.
What I'd Do Differently
- I don't think I would do anything different with this painting. Big loose brush strokes wouldn't have worked with the peony because there were so many fluffy ridges to get in. I love the colour. I have a lot of dark red peonies but I think I love this pink one best.
