What I Used for This Painting
Oil paint on canvas - size 15" x 15"
Why This Painting is My Favorite
I was pleased with this painting because it involved a few different processes. First I took a few photos at night of my local underground tube station in North London. Then I did some drawings from that photo, then a little watercolour - then I did the painting itself.
I like this particular area where I live and I love tube stations, so I was really pleased with the result as it's sort of like a journal of a little bit of my life. It reminds me of when I used to work in London (I am now retired) and that feeling of coming out of the tube station into the rain and looking forward to getting in and having a cup of tea.
It's actually on my wall where I was pleased to put it without feeling embarrassed - for the first time!
I remember being thrilled at having got something to come out just like I wanted it to - the umbrella was the hardest!
Lessons Learned
- I learned that it's quite a good idea (for me) to sometimes plan a painting and that I learned different techniques at each of the planning stages. Also, I learned that sometimes you are 'doing' the painting even if you are just walking round with the idea buzzing around in your head.
