What I Used for This Painting

Acrylic on canvas. 76 x 61 cm.

Why This Painting is My Favorite

This may seem like a rather strange choice as a favourite, not at all the sort of thing some sensitive souls would feel comfortable

with hanging in their living rooms. The purpose was not, however, to produce a pretty wall decoration. My intention was to shock, and for this reason I was rather pleased with Marion’s comment about this picture resembling a scene from the fires of Hell! This was precisely the impression I wanted to create, which is why I consider this picture to be my favourite choice for 2010, as I feel, for once, that I actually achieved what I set out to do.I also feel that this is the most professional work I have produced this year in terms of,composition, tonal values and technique.

Lessons Learned

  • The main lesson I think I learnt from this painting is that I would probably be a lot better off churning out pretty, saleable pictures of flowers, restful scenic landscapes and other subjects that would not be quite so unduly disturbing or unsettling!
