What I Used for This Painting
I painted it with acrylics and used a 12 by 24 inch canvas.
Why This Painting is My Favorite
This is only one of my favorite paintings I did in 2010. I had a difficult time choosing just one because I have about five that fit that category.
What I like about the painting is it tells a story and makes me grateful for the luxuries most of us have in our country [USA] compared to people in other parts of the world. At the same time, material things aren't necessarily the keys to happiness or contentment; these women may be lots happier than we are. They look to be enjoying each other's company toiling together doing their laundry in the murky river water.
The painting is hanging in my home but will be going to my daughter as a gift.
What I remember most about painting was the fear it wouldn't turn out the way I wanted it too. It took me almost two years to get up the courage to paint it.
Lessons Learned
- What I learned is if something seems too challenging, give it a go - you have nothing to lose and everything to gain in the experience you'll get even from what you might think is a failure.
- With each new painting I have learned so much by trying new and different subjects and the more I try the more I want to paint other than the mundane!
