What I Used for This Painting
Stretched canvas, 16 x 20 inch, Winsor & Newton Water Mixable Oils.
Why This Painting is My Favorite
I love the bold colors and set up of this still life. It was a special painting because it was done for a very close friend of mine and held special meaning to the couple. Each item chosen is represented in the painting from each places they have traveled to. The bottle color and the custom label has their Wedding Anniversary names. The colors for everything chosen also have special meaning to them.
The painting was flown to South Korea where they now live. I remember how I had to force myself to take my time with each item, making sure the scale and pieces were right for their placement and meaning.
Lessons Learned
- I could do a still life and not to be afraid of trying something new. To plan ahead, presketch and underpainting is a must.
- I also learned how to use calipers in sketching to check what I think is the scale to what it actually is to real life. I found that I can sketch things pretty close to what they are in size.
- I found that guessing the paint color mixes seems to be easier for me with out the color charts. I know what looks right and what don't and can adjust when it needs to be.
- I also learned more importantly how to photograph them properly to show the painting best.
- What I learned not to do is hurry.
