Where/Why I Painted It
Iguacu Falls 'Bird Park' advertising banner and map mural. My dear friend owns the Foz Tropicana Bird Park at Iguacu Falls and has commissioned me to do extensive work for her over the years. I have been blessed to travel from my home in Africa to Brazil to paint, and with each visit I love the place more... the exuberance of the people, the abundance of Creation. It is a truly Spiritual place and with each visit I hone my painting skills.
What I Love About This Mural
Both Projects were wonderful to work on. I spent my days out of doors on scaffoling at tree top level and was able to look out at all the wonderful Birds and creatures in the Forest next to me... What a magical place! Due to the harshness of the rainforest climate on paint, I have revisited the Murals to give them a freshen/brighten up, and each time, it has felt like visiting with an old friend.
Tips and Tricks
- As I only had six weeks to complete the paintings and am rather a perfectionist, I have learnt to always arrive in Brazil well prepared with the mural planned and drawn on a large piece of paper with a grid mathematically worked out. Preparation, preparation... That said, I would inevitably run out of time and have a few nights working through the night, in order to finish the murals and catch my plane home. The acrylic paint I use is just good quality 'Wash and wear' wall paint and I only purchase a tin of each primary and black and white.
