Medium/Support/Size
Acrylic; handstretched canvas; 10x12"
For some of the colors I had been given samples of Golden Acrylic and loved them. Next time I buy paint, I'm upgrading!
My Thoughts About This Challenge
Biggest challenge was taking a photo that accurately renders the colors but even with Paintshop Pro 9 I was unable to get the true colors to shine through.
The dark background with light upfront on the leaves was difficult to come by. I started with the dark background and that is never a good place for me. I work much better with acrylics using them as I would watercolor.
Start with the lights and then use glazes to darken and enhance colors; that way I do not get too dark or end up with muddy colors, which I did not do with this painting.
Lessons Learned
- Be bold.
- This is the second rendition of this painting and while I finished it last night, I was not happy with the darks - too much for a sunny day, so this morning I edited and added splashes of sunshine.
- I like this version much better but once again, the colors do not show through and each color monitor plays tricks ever though I've downloaded and used a program for adjusting it accurately; it still is totally different than on my laptop.
- Color of the wall is important for placement because I love color and my house is filled with rose, gold, fuscia walls so I have to be careful where I place a painting
