My Thoughts About This Challenge

The example tree was close to the veldt tree project we did once before so I decided to use one of my already finished tree paintings (I like doing trees, particularly bare trees). This piece was started with the uniform blue sky, followed by the grassed area. A lot of "daubing" was done to simulate the grass effect. The tree was the last to be painted and the fine branches were the most difficult.

I have been sketching bare trees since childhood and like to create the "branching", hence the bare trees.

Tips and Tricks

  • This was a mood painting.
  • I felt sort of sad and lonely (for no particular reason)(perhaps I am bi-polar)
  • This lone tree filled the bill; it is lonely....and I liked it.
  • The scene could actually be real in the colors used; I wonder what it would do to my mood if the sky were changed to purple or violet; the tree to a bright green and the ground to a red?
