My Thoughts About This Challenge

This one is an attempt to unite the couple blue-green with those of yellow-red colors. The tiny dots of white, scattered across the painting, try to do the link with the colors. On the left, the dark edge and angle of the bridge against the lighted wall is just in the midst of a quadrate (the canvas is also a square), whose angles are materialized by four white hints: first hint, next to the biggest window; second hint, the shimmering oblique white blind in the distance; third hint, just under the horizontal part of the bridge, next to the little boat; fourth hint, in the water at the vertical of the left wall of the bridge in the shade.

Why those option? Because the only opening in this photo is located on the left of the bridge, where the bridge itself seems to step into the quadrate. Just a high door, an access which symbolizes the breathing of this scene. The lady on the photo shows us the direction. I have tried to translate these subtle movements, torn apart between the left side on the bridge and the right side behind the bridge.

Lessons Learned

  • I fear the systematic treatment of the water tires the eyes out.
  • The saturated colors look too insistent, which gives a magmatic and oppressing look.
  • The exaggerated focus on the bridge, which, by comparison, makes the water in the foreground too blurry: unfortunately, I have forgotten the atmospheric credibility of the perspective, because of the geometric dark windows on the yellowish-white walls in the bottom, which immediately impressed my eyes, at the beginning of this work.
