What's on My Easel
I have three paintings in different stages going on now, but sitting on my easel is the one I am posting. It is my official first commission (yah!!), a posthumous portrait. That is the really bad photo I'm working from that you see clipped to the canvas. It is oil on 11x14 stretch canvas.
I started this four days ago and am hoping to be done with it in three days... that would be a week. So far I've put 15 hours into it. If they like it, they will have others done.
What I'm Doing
I'm working on the eyes today, trying to give it character/personality. It's hard when you don't know the person. Still need to layer the skin tones. I think it is going to turn out well... at least I hope so.
Advice
- I've not done very dark skin before so that is something new.
- I'm not happy with the eyes - it lacks animation.
- I am happy with the likeness.
- I'm not sure I'm happy with the background.
