Life Drawing Class I

What's on My Easel

I have had this painting on and off my easel for some time now. I have been struggling with the "knowing if it is finished" part. It is oil on gessoed particle board (31x42 inches). I was recycling some packing material.

I named it Life Drawing Class I. The original pose came from one of my life drawing classes and I reproduced it here and placed the easels as a reason for her being perched on the stool.

What I'm Doing

I have been trying to stretch myself to paint more people and trying to pull ideas from my brain rather than from photographs. I also have been exploring more mediums... oil sticks, oil pastels. If I look at the photographs of this painting from start to the present time, I find I am pleased with it overall.

Advice

  • I have branched out from using brushes to applying paint with a knife and then moving it around and blending with my fingers and/or cloth
