What's on My Easel
My first commission so I am pretty excited. It's a cropped facial portrait of a one year old boy and is approximately half way through. I am so far very happy with it and it has been the first one where I haven't had a single hiccup or unexpected challenge.
I paint in the dining room with some rubbish bags to protect the table. I am always surrounded by little people and big people and I often have to fight to protect my paintings from curious hands. The first photo shows my painting area and you can also see my baby (10 months), my fourth child (aged 4) and my grandson (22 months)!
What I'm Doing
Today I am hoping to finish the skin on the face and the pale highlights of the eyeballs. That will take me about three hours I think. It is turning out exactly as I hoped so I am breathing a huge sigh of relief! The background is going to be black (probably) and the hair has a lot of bright white highlights.
Advice
- Shoot, I got no skills and no training and everything I probably do is the wrong way round and back to front... but I love the eyes in this painting, I think they have come out just peachy.
- The second photo shows how I work in close up. From left to right, my paints (Atelier interactive acrylic), blue lid tubs store large amounts of pre-mixed colours that I will need again, brushes (size 1 & 3 used so far), palette and knives for scooping colours to mix, colour concept chart that I made up and red and black storage boxes that hold my paints etc.
