Why I Painted It
I was trying to paint a still life, but with some movement. I painted the cups from the actual objects, which were high on a shelf. The flowers are from my imagination.
What I Love About This Painting
I like the freshness of the paint. I like the movement on the left and side, and the little drips, which give the painting a feeling that the cups are not empty. The flowers were from my imagination, and are meant to look like large buds just about to open, maybe into a large magnolia flower. This is hanging in my studio.
Tips and Tricks
- I learnt about think about shadows and where to place them to give a little movement.
- I learnt about being loose with light.
- I learnt how to mix two types of pen and wash, one more exact than the other, to create movement.
