Why I Painted It
I painted this as a demonstration during an Open Studio. The sitter was in situ and we had about a six hour session with breaks. I wanted my audience to appreciate my style and interact with me whilst I worked.
What I Love About This Painting
I love it because it shows my sitter in a real-life situation and it is such a spontaneous portrait with lots of new colours including metallics and non-traditional skin tones. It is at the framers waiting for a frame. I look forward to putting on my wall.
Tips and Tricks
- I wanted to show a technique that was fairly fast and yet effective.
- I wanted to prove to myself and my audience that it was possible to create a painting with some merit using this short brush stroke style.
- It shows me that it's possible to do a finished work under pressure from time and in an environment that was out of the comfort zone.
