Rough Sea, Blythdale Beach

Why I Painted It

I used to live at the seaside and spent many a day on the beach with my camera. I would then return home, print my pics and then I would paint which ever I chose to put down on my canvas

What I Love About This Painting

It was a rough sea and I loved the capture and energy of the waves. It was nice to capture a seascape with a rough sea as most are very calm-looking waves. Working to get the colour just right as another factor which I can now take forward into any new seascape that I paint. I could not will myself to sell it and it is now hanging up proudly in my home. Every now and again one gets attached to a certain painting which one knows will be very difficult to capture again and instead of letting of it, we decide to keep it.

Tips and Tricks

  • I used a blush brush which ladies use on their faces to capture the spray coming off the waves. The brush is large and very soft. This brush has become a must for other seascapes.
