How/Why I Painted It & Who It Is
This portrait is Colin the Stoat. Since Colin had done such a great painting of me, I wanted to try and do his portrait. He sent me this photo of himself. I thought I would give it a go.
How I Feel About This Painting
I love this painting of Colin and when I did the underpainting it was looking good. Then I found it difficult to get it how I wanted. I think the skin looks okay for a beginner.
Looking at it as a whole it's not too bad. This is as near as I have ever got to realistic.
I don't know how Colins feels about this yet. But his portrait is hanging on my studio wall along with Jim and Skip. I have just got to do my three ladies now.
Tips and Tricks
- I had too many paintings on the go. Next time I will concentrate on the one and try to focus on it more.
- I think I will try to concentrate on one colour at a time. For example when doing the skin tones, keep going till that section is done, then move on.
- As advised by Colin, when I do the next underpainting, not to used bright yellow colours for the skin tone.
