Why This Painting is My Favorite
View from Hernshead was painted in Central Park, New York City, one of my most favorite places in the world. It was made in a quick, one-hour session, painted directly, with no under painting or drawing. The paint was applied and left unchanged for the most part, with slight adjustments being made to the colors as the painting took shape.
Lessons Learned
- This small painting made on a cool Autumn day in Central Park was a breakthrough work for me in 2009. I learned that painting in a burst of energy and inspiration is not only doable, but desirable. That color decisions made on-the-spot should be left as is.
- While this work is not my most finished painting of 2009, it is my personal favorite for the feelings of spontaneity and joy I still get when looking at this small canvas.
