What I Used for This Painting

The canvas is 48 x 48 inches, and I used acrylic paints. I used brushes, scrapers and palette knife. Layering color over color was exciting.

Why This Painting is My Favorite

I am moving more and more into abstract work and wanted that sense and the landscape represented. I think it was a good marriage and I am enjoying it. I do art fairs every summer and have found that I can include my abstracts with my landscapes and people buy. I was afraid at first but if you love color which I do, I guess your work has that as a common thread. I am in love with the countryside so I can never abandon my landscapes entirely.

Lessons Learned

  • Designing a large canvas is fun. In this case using the upper portion for the landscape was natural and using bold strokes of color in an abstract manner for the lower portion also felt right. I have a few more landscapes in mind and what to do with the lower portion will be fun.
