What I Used for This Painting
Acrylic on canvas, size 1 meter by 60 centimeters.
Why This Painting is My Favorite
This painting reminds me of all my dreams and goals in life, that's why I named it "Hope". As an artist without experience in painting school, I believe that I can pursue my dream even when I am small, and after three years I made it successfully. But in the otherside, I made a lot of paintings this year as part of my own practice (since I never went to any painting course/school), but everytime I finished the painting I still feel emptiness on it, it's even hard to name my paintings, because I don't see the spirit of it.
But when I made this tulips painting, only this month (December 2009), it shows a lot more story and dreams. And it reminds of my friend/mentor advice about starting a paint, I should dedicate it to the Lord, and I shouldn't rely only on my own strength but on the works of God. After a week, I quickly finish the painting without any doubt and disappointment. So that's why I call this painting "Hope". And it really fits her.
And that will end this year a year full of learnings and hope, and ready to face another new year for another new learnings. This painting is in my cousin's condominium unit in Manila, Philippines; they display it the living area.
Lessons Learned
- Do not express only your own ideas when painting, let God share his arts ideas too. Then your work will express spirit and life of a true meaning of art.
- Don't quit, there is always a hope in art; art expresses the way you do it or feel it.
