Size of My Studio
My studio is in the rear of an art gallery and gift store located on Ram Cat Alley in Seneca, SC, USA. It is a nice arrangement because the public has access to my studio even if I am not there or if they are interested in a painting they can look up the price in the price book located in the studio.
I have a lot of fun there and love to have visitors when I am working in my studio. I have a lot of small brushes that I give to children that visit. I ask them if they like to paint and they always say yes. So I give them a small brush and ask them to paint something and bring it back to show me.
How I Organize My Studio
Actually it is usually a mess particularly since I added a 100 year old etching press and a large cast iron block press. I have a flat file for drawings and a storage rack for frames and canvas's and paintings that I have relegated to the finish some day pile.
Advice
- Unfortunately I have a window that is south light not north light so I have a curtain that blocks the harsh southern light when it is too bright. I have full spectrum lights overhead and floor lights to use to light still lifes etc.
- I have a metal cabinet to store flammable stuff since I mostly use oil paints.
- I make my own grounds from hardboard from Home Depot and I size them with rabbit skin glue and traditional gesso.
- I have tons of brushes since my motto is you can never have too many brushes
- I have a corner cabinet for storage with a TV for watching videos.
