The Medium?
Oils on Canvas. I've been painting for a few years.
The Problem?
I'm entering a county fair with an oil painting of a teddy bear sitting on a rocking chair. Which class would I enter - figure, portrait, still life or not specified? If I enter the wrong class the painting will not be judged.
Advice
- What would this painting be listed under?
Marion Boddy-Evans, Painting Guide, says:
I would enter it in not specified. I'd say the categories figure and portrait would be expected to feature a human. If the teddy bear had been by itself it would have fitted still life, but with a chair too it then could be seen more as an interior scene than a still life.
While a chair is as big as a table, the latter is more customary in still lifes than a chair. Which leaves not specified. But it's a tough call, as it depends on how the judges classify a still life. Best of luck in the fair!
