Do You Add a Date to Your Paintings

Yes, I date my paintings, and include it by my signature as part of the design. Years ago I filled two pages with signatures and chose the one pleasing me the most.

Do You Put Your Contact Details on the Back

No.

Where Do You Sign Your Paintings

I'm always aware of where the signature will go. I like to make it a part of the painting. The painting seems to tell me where to sign. Some artists like to sign on the same side, but not every painting is right for that. Always somewhere at bottom left or right, but not too low. I want my name to look like I meant it to be there!

How Do You Sign Your Paintings

Full name, with just last two numbers of year. I always sign the same, using whatever medium is in the painting. I use a contrasting color from the work to sign. I have had clients make sure I sign any work I do on their walls at their home or business.

I like to use a color for signing that is the strongest in the piece.

Advice

  • Well, just do what I did years ago. Fill as many pages with your signature as it takes till you are satisfied. Use pencil, ink, pastel, or paint and get comfortable with your medium. With a brush, it takes practice to get right amount of liquidity to make a spontaneous look to your signing. That "practice" word comes to mind always!
