Can I Mix Water Soluble Oils With Acrylic Paints?

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

Question: Can I Mix Water Soluble Oils With Acrylic Paints?

I'm trying out water-based oil paints for the first time. I've got a lot of acrylic paints still, though. Can I mix the two together or will this make a mess? -- Lizzie

Answer:

Yes, you can mix water soluble oil paints with acrylic paints (and acrylic mediums) as these are also water based.

But you might ask yourself why you would want to as you'd also be mixing up the different characteristics of oils and acrylics.
