"What would you recommend for a palette of M. Graham watercolors? I presently use a warm and cool of the primaries plus burnt sienna and raw umber. I have been told M. Graham is the best - just don't know the M Graham pigments very well." --Tim T.
I certainly think the watercolors M.Graham produce are good, and they're among my best brands of watercolor paint. In terms of selecting a palette, what I would do is to check the pigments of the colors you're using at the moment and then find the equivalent in M.Graham's paints.
The information ought to be on the tube label of your current paints. (I find it easiest looking at the Color Index number rather than the names.) Then find the M.Graham equivalents from their color chart on their website.
Regardless of brand, my personal choice for a six set of primaries (a warm and cool of each primary) would be something like this:
- Cadmium yellow and azo yellow
- Cadmium red and quinacridone red
- Cerulean blue and phthalocyanine blue or Prussian blue.
