From the Painting Guide: I think these sketches are a great example of why it's important to spend time observing nature, to translate what you're looking at onto paper as a sketch or study. Look at the angles, twists, and turns on the branches. Why stress trying to invent or imagine things when you've got it right in front of you? Nature already provides it for us; we just need to look, and then work up the bits that we find interesting and intriguing into paintings.
