From the Artist: Inspired by a photograph on Morgue File.
From the Painting Guide: Intriguing choice of subject, but the lemon yellow and burnt sienna work really well for it. Your painting really has that glint of gold you see off a fish's scales.
For those people who're not familiar with it, Morgue File is one of the places to get free reference photos "for use in all creative pursuits". The name comes the newspaper industry, for a file that holds past issues.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Negative Space: Look at how the negative space (the blue) strongly defines the fins of the fish
Background: It's very definitely a personal choice each artist has to make for themselves, but I'm not keen on backgrounds that don't extend to the corners of the support. As with a painting where bits of the canvas are left unpainted, it makes the piece feel unfinished to me.
