From the Artist: I enjoy working abstractly, and the technique of poured paint gives me a wonderful appreciation for movement and color for their own sake. This painting is called Transformation, the idea that out of something very plain and drab (the burnt sienna). an entire new life can spring forth, the existence of this entity, was previously unknown.
I enjoyed working with the limited palette, and was surprised at the range of colors that could be made from it.
From the Painting Guide: Lovely to see someone doing an abstract with the project's colors; there have been fewer than I'd expected. The pouring technique really does produce beautiful fluid effects, and the mixing of the colors creates a result I can stare at ages (or shall I say meditate?).
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Orientation of an Abstract: Unlike a representational painting, there's nothing obvious about which way an abstract should be hung (except in the artist's vision, of course). So if you don't want your abstract hung "upside down", you'll need to make a note of which side is the top on the back.
Of course you can't control how someone who buys a painting might hang it in their house. With this painting, for instance, I so want to turn it 90 degrees to the left, an orientation that'll make it read like a tree to me. But that's just my love of abstraction from nature revealing itself.
Photo or Painting?: I don't know if it's just the way the photo's been cropped or whether it's that way in the original, but I like the fact that the vertical line isn't perfectly straight, that it's slightly skew. It's a subtle effect, but to my eye it makes it more interesting.
