From the Artist: I was trying to capture the texture of the paintings Monet did, layering on colors next to each other, working more with the light and color and less with the images and objects to be seen. Very much trying to work on the impressions of the moment.

From the Painting Guide: I think this has a fabulous sense of leaves suspended or floating in a pond reflecting unseen tree or shrub foliage. The light greens and yellows in the background have a slight sense of movement to them, as if a slight breeze is shifting the water's surface or the leaves in the trees.

I did find myself wondering whether there ought to be more of a hint of the pinks from the flowers in the water... but not necessarily as reflections can do all sorts of things depending on your viewpoint.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Inspiration from the Masters: Copying the work of a Master has long been part of the tradition of learning to paint, and the next step is to use their work as inspiration for a painting that's your own, as done here. While there are echoes to Monet's lily paintings (such as this example), it's not a direct copy of any of them; instead it's an individual reworking of the idea of lily leaves and flowers with reflections. And that's the key to developing as an artist.
