From the Artist: This project has been very difficult. It's my first time working with a knife. At one point I was so frustrated that I actually used my fingers dipped in water first. And then a water main broke and I had no more water to work with... so I used a bit of snow as it melted in my color mixing box.

I can't say that I'm pleased with it, I think it is too dark. I just couldn't get the water to look the way it ought to. However, I am glad I tried it, and have realized that the palette knife is most assuredly not for me. Quick, where's my brush?!

From the Painting Guide: A painting knife isn't a tool that works for everyone, but there's really only one way to discover whether it is or not and that's by trying it. You ought to feel pleased that you persevered (though the water main breaking could've been the universe trying to tell you to stop torturing yourself with this technique!).

I think you've used a painting knife to great effect. I particularly like the forest in the distance; it has a wonderful sense of depth through the variations in greens, the little touches of highlight, and the beautiful mountain/sky backdrop. Looking at this I certainly wouldn't have said you'd struggled with a knife!

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Green in a Landscape: Look at the variety of greens in this painting, as well as the variation in tone. Look how yellow some are, while others lean to blue. It's this variation that gives the forest in this painting such vibrancy; it's not something you can achieve with one tube of green.

The same applies to the "blue" of the pond. Look at how much variation there actually is in the color of the water.
