From the Artist: This is the first acrylic painting for me. Knife painting is a challenge! I had trouble controlling that palette knife but am happy with the looseness of the painting... not my usual style.

I loved the way the paint gives texture which doesn't show in the photo, but the waves are very realistic in the painting with the way the paint dries with lumps and bumps. I may have to give acrylics a serious try in the near future along with knife painting.

From the Painting Guide: I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed using a knife enough to visualize doing so again! I think it's a tool that suits acrylics because, with the paint drying so rapidly, you can't overwork and overmix the paint like you can so easily with oils.

It can be tricky to get texture to show in a photo. I've found it works best if you have a little light coming from the side, so it creates a tiny bit of shadow on the raised bits of paint.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Solid vs Fractured Color: Just look at the foam in the water, how being broken up so color from below shows through gives a sense of movement. The same with the trees on the shore, where the darker greens create a sense of depth and irregularity of the lighter greens gives a sense of foliage. Now look at how, by contrast, the smooth foreground appears flat and level.
