From the Artist: For my first attempt at using a painting knife I decided to do one of my favorite painter's pieces, the great Monet's "Lady with the Umbrella". This was a fun experience for me and I loved the feel of the thick paint on the board. I particularly like the look of the grass and the way the direction of the paint can help achieve the 'flow' of material.
From the Painting Guide: I think you've painted a fabulous version of Monet's "Lady", with a sense of the breeze blowing in the sky and the fabric of her dress flowing. The texture and colors in the grass are great -- loosely painted, with a range of colors and marks, adding up to a sense of depth, movement, and nature. Making a copy enables you to focus on technique only, and I hope your painting will be an inspiration to anyone hesitating to pick up a knife.
