From the Artist: This was my first attempt with a painting knife. The background was done as if I had used watercolor to give it a misty look, then I did the pines and the fire with a knife. I am sorry that the quality of photo isn't good, but I hope you can see the knife strokes.

From the Painting Guide: The use of the two different painting styles -– the mistiness of the watercolor background and the more solid, textured application of paint for the forest –- gives a distinct feel to the threatening nature of fire in a forest. It is a solid, palpable entity. The only thing I'd ask is, where's the smoke?
