Knife painting

"Along the Pacific Coast" by Charlene Corman-Brooks. 9x12" (23x30cm). Acrylic on cardboard, done with painting knives and Hygel Polymer Medium for texture.

From the Artist: This painting was inspired by a photo taken of the Oregon Coast near Depoe Bay during our September vacation. Using the knives at first seemed awkward, like painting with chop sticks, then later became more like frosting a cake. I like the 3D effect that the knives and Hygel give a composition. I have used painting knives in the past.

From the Painting Guide: Several different textures have been created to give form to the various elements along the Pacific Coast. Compare, for example, the sea with its dynamic structure of breaking waves, to the more fluid, rather water-like texture of the sky.
