From the Artist: This if the first time I'm trying a monthly painting project. I was stuck and bored with a very detailed painting, so I took a break to try abstract. I'm not sure how abstract this really is though... It was inspired by fading hydrangeas, my favorite flower.

I covered the canvas with greens, golds, reds, and blues in a swirly pattern / brushstroke; used white on top to bring forth hydrangeas and pickets; blues and pinks for leaves. The painting's title comes from the picket fence ideal as well as the blue and pink leaves (suggesting the "one of each" idea of having children). I had fun working on it at least!

From the Painting Guide: The underlying aim of all the monthly painting projects is to encourage people to try something different, and so I'm pleased to hear that this month's challenge not only did this but that you had fun with it too.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Is It an Abstract? This painting wouldn't be considered a pure abstract as the flowers (hydrangeas) and picket fence are too realistically painted, but the aim of this month's project is abstraction, rather than pure abstract. The degree of abstraction a particular person paints will depend on some extent to their usual style of painting. There's abstraction in this painting through the shift in color across the composition, and in the positioning of the flowers themselves (and they way they're not part of a bush). It's intriguing, to say the least.
